The Legion of Honour is a Shrine Unit comprised of Veterans or currently serving Military.
The members are uniquely three-time volunteers, first as Masons, Shriners and in their country’s Armed Forces.
Freemasonry is the practice and willing adherence to a series of moral
and spiritual lessons and life-long obligations.
Masons are thus bounded by their freely-given oath to the Fraternity of Masonry, a brotherhood of
ethical and moral citizens bonded together in an ancient, free and democratic purpose.
Shriners are thus those Masons who have undertaken a further obligation of a
charitable nature for a special purpose,
that of the support of Shriners Hospitals for Children and Burns Units.
The purpose of the Legion of Honour is thus to support and serve the Shrine to which they are
affiliated, to promote and encourage Patriotism, Love of Country and love of Flag.
Legion of Honour members thus take an active leadership role engaging in a wide variety of Shrine
–related events and special Legion of Honour veterans remembrance and commemorative ceremonies.
They form flag-colour parties to nobly carry their country’s flag and that of the national flags of all nations
represented in the international membership of Shriners.
They lead by example in their dress, bearing and deportment, taking pride in having served their nation
in defence of its values and humbly remember those who sacrificed everything so we could live in freedom.
They pay particular and special homage to “unknown soldiers” whose bodies
rest in unknown graves and celebrate their cherished memory.
They are the members of the LEGION OF HONOUR.

The Legion of Honour was founded at the 48th Session of Imperial Council of A.A.O.N.M.S. in San Francisco, California in 1922.
In the following years several other LOH units were established and on 29 June 1931,
the National (and later International) Association,
Legions of Honour were given official recognition to coordinate and encourage their work in the Shrine.
There are now 160 Legion of Honour Units in A.A.O.N.M.S comprised of just over 12,000 members represented by the
International Shrine nations of the United States, Canada, Mexico and Panama .
The Tunis Legion of Honour is a member of the North-East Shrine Association division of the International Association,
Legion of Honour (IALOH).
