TT Growth and Development

or

How I learned to live with my first TT

My introduction to the real thing was at Kyeri TTs . There was no doubt in my mind after meeting Terri's awesome bunch that TT's were for me .

In 1996 my search led me to Samsara TTs in Ontario - I pestered both breeders almost daily until John George finally said "YES" - I could have a puppy. The wait seemed endless.... Was it worth the wait ? You bet it was !

What a Sweetie !

My puppy needed a name - something Tibetan - that had a meaning..... I read , somewhere , that Qeemo means laugh or smile and Kho means 'he'. So he became - KhoQeemo - the jet propelled , flying dust mop !

Christmas was a blast as he discovered parcels and bows and , THE TREE ! It took me 4 tries to get the lights on - KiMo kept leaping right into the middle of it !

January 1997 brought our introduction to formal training - KiMo developed an instant taste for dried liver ! YUCK ! He went through a growth spurt - one ear was higher than the other and his back legs got longer and longer . I fretted that he would never ever look like a TT ! House training was not a priority on KiMo's 'to do' list . Without Richard - KiMo's sitter , I might still be cleaning up puddles .

By 6 months of age KiMo's front end had caught up with his back end . I breathed a sigh of relief ! Silly me ! KiMo's coat really started to grow and his eyes diappeared behind a very thick headfall - making it that much harder to figure out what he was planning ! He found his voice - scared himself a couple of times with a noise that sounds like a 'rooster crowing' ! He lost most of his baby teeth - except for a couple of stubborn canines, that seemed to want to stay .

He had his first ( and hopefully last) surgery at 7 months to remove one of those teeth . The Vet told me he would have to stay at the clinic all day... Ya .. right !! By noon , they had called me to come and get him - he was raising such a rucous ! Trust a TT to find a way to get what THEY want !

We suffered through another growth spurt ! And KiMo grew bored with the classes - he could most often be found flopped out on the floor waiting his turn on 'THE TABLE' !

We started going to the beach on a regular basis - something we both really enjoyed. He loved meeting and playing with other dogs - big or small . And so , I decided that the time had come to find a companion for KiMo . But KiMo had other ideas ! He did not want to share HIS house with a new puppy . We tried... but KiMo was so rough with the little TT that I was afraid he would hurt him . I talked to both KiMo's and Maestro's breeders and decided that the timing was wrong as much for KiMo as for me .

In the meantime we entered a few sanction matches in preparation for his show ring debut . Hmmmmm ..KiMo loved the social part !

Our first show was in June 1997 when the TTCC held their Specialty in Vancouver - We couldn't have asked for a better way to start out ! KiMo met a lovely little girl TT named "Joy" - they took one look at each other and it was PLAY TIME ! All that grooming was out the window ! It was so worth it - as both dogs really had fun and the stress of the ring melted away !

At one year of age - His coat really started to change and required more attention ( about 1 1/2 hours once a week to bath , brush and dry him )

He has always been good with little children - even when they grab his headfall to look for his eyes ! He sits patiently , waiting for them to let go. In fact he greets everyone with a series of leaps that would make your head spin . But once he has welcomed you - he settles right down .. beside you ..... but you'd better not have anything edible in your pockets or purse ....... !

And you thought you had hair problems !!!!!!!!!!!

By the fall of 1997 I was ready to add another TT . Dal Le arrived from Ottawa in January of 1998, KiMo immediately took over her care and training . Finally the timing was right for all of us !

KiMo really didn't seem to enjoy the show ring .. so we started going to Agility classes ..... he loved it !! But he loves doing it his own way ....... he gave a new meaning to TUNNEL .. when he tried to walk on it instead of through it !!

After a two year hiatus .. it was time to go back into the Breed ring to earn the final few points that he needed .. and he did .....

in June 2000 he finished his Canadian Championship

2003 he's 7 now .. where did the time go ..... ? KiMo still does HIS version of the zoomies , he still loves to show off HIS version of Agility .... and he still steals my shoes .....so not much has changed ...... He's still quite simply

THE BEST !!

2004 : We went to the IKC show in Chicago where KiMo won the Veteran's Sweepstakes Class at the Regional Specialty.

2008 : I can hardly believe that KiMo is 12 now .. his quirky sense of humour still makes me laugh daily .. he has finally given up chewing shoes but has replaced that with stealing anything that is made of plastic ... He still sleeps on the foot of my bed everynight . I wouldn't have it any other way !
